Psoriasis can be defined as a non-contagious, auto-immune, skin disorder that is chronic in nature. It is characterized by the appearance of reddish, dry, and scaly skin that comes out as patches. These psoriatic patches are found over the scalp, ears, elbows, genitalia and on the palm and feet. These scaly patches are formed due to excessive skin production in the areas of inflammation. They are formed at a speed faster than the body’s ability to shed off older skin and therefore it gives a silvery-shiny appearance.

So, it becomes a case of auto-immune disorder where the body acts against itself.
The body in return starts producing skin cells to replace the older ones. As a result there is accumulation of dead cells layers.

Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis is effective and natural way to combat skin disorders. This treatment regimen utilizes three pronged stratergy taking into account the ahar (diet), vihara (lifestyle) and aushada (medicines). Along with the application of medicines, the person also needs to control his diet and lifestyle to attain maximum results of treatment in any skin diseases especially psoriasis. Ayurvedic treatment of psoriasis includes counseling, lifestyle management, diet management and panchakarma, especially vamana and virechana. Since Ayurveda associates psoriasis with toxins in the body, the first step towards treatment is to regain the balance by detoxifying the body. This is achieved by Panchakarma treatment. Oral Ayurvedic medicines, immunomodulators, topical treatments are generally the line of treatment for psoriasis. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to adapt to this condition. Regular exercise is also very important. Yogic asanas and pranayam can help to keep the mind and body fit and healthy.
    DOS:
    • Bathe only with mild soaps and keep the temperature of water lukewarm and not hot. Moisturize your skin with coconut oil or any other moisturizer. It prevents the skin from cracking.
