Panchakarma refers to five therapies. It is Ayurvedaís detoxification and primary purification treatment. This therapy primarily removes illness-causing toxins from the nervous system, blood vessels, lungs, bowels and digestive system. You might be wondering why it is so important to detox your body? Well, if you donít, then the toxins (or Ďamasí) get accumulated in your body and can further be the reason that your body will be susceptible to the flu, and other viruses. The best part is that you can do Panchakarma from the comfort of your own home. Here is a short guide how you can do Panchakarma at home-

Day 1-3

Start your day with two ounces of warm ghee. Kapha-dominant people can add a pinch of Trikatu whereas Vata-dominant people could opt for a pinch of rock salt. You can also consume 2 tablespoons of flaxseed, 15 minutes before all your meals for three days (if you have high blood levels of sugar, triglycerides, and cholesterol). Every night during this 3-day period, put around 1 teaspoon of Triphala powder into a cup and combine it with Ĺ cup of boiling water. Let it stand for around 10 minutes and then consume it. It acts as a mild laxative.

Day 4-5

Make sure to eat only Khichdi for all 3 meals. Khichdi is a preparation consisting of rice, dal and some spices. There are three types of teas that you can consume depending on your dosha- Vata tea (coriander, cumin, and ginger), pitta tea (fennel, coriander, and cumin) and Kapha tea (clove, cinnamon and ginger). At your bedtime, massage your body with organic oil for around 15 minutes. Once your skin has absorbed the oil, you can take a shower with natural soap, but you can allow some oil to remain back on your skin. Continue with your dose of Triphala and go to bed.

Day 6-8

Keep going with your routine of Khichdi and tea, followed by a massage and a shower and Triphala. Boil 1 tablespoon of dashamoola (Ayurvedic herbal compounds) in 2 cups of water for about 5 minutes during your bedtime. Consume it and try sleeping with it inside your body. If you canít control it, then wait for at least 30 minutes before hitting the bathroom.

Day 9-12

The major parts of the Panchakarma Treatment are done! On Day 9 you can add steamed vegetables to your Khichdi. You can slowly shift towards a healthier diet by adding breads and more vegetables to your meal. Donít forget to take 7-8 hours of sleep every day to wake up refreshed and rejuvenated.

Gradually, you will realize how this natural detox will help deepen your self-awareness, self-love as well as self-esteem.
