  • How to Reduce Back Pain?

Back pain is one of the most debilitating pain conditions that affect almost 90% of people at least once in their lifetime. Chronic back pain that lasts for more than 3 months at a time interferes with personal and social life of an individual and lowers the quality of life. Although several pain medications such as the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication or muscle relaxants are available to manage pain, regular use of these drugs can cause unpleasant side effects. Many people therefore prefer natural therapies to reduce back pain. Here are some natural treatments that can help you reduce back pain\

    1. Heat therapy
Application of hot compresses relieves pain by means of vasodilatation (dilatation of the blood vessels) effect. You may also use warm baths or electric heating devices to relieve the pain. The application of heat increases blood circulation, relaxes muscles, and soothes throbbing pain and stiffness in back muscles.

    2. Massage
Massage therapy is one of the most popular natural therapies to relieve back pain. The massage strokes reduce stiffness and improve blood circulation. This further provides a fresh supply of oxygen to the muscles making them feel very relaxed.

    3. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
This treatment uses single frequency electrical current to stimulate the muscles and nerves. The stimulation of muscles reduces the pain by blocking the pain signals or releasing pain reducing hormones endorphins.

    4. Bed Rest
Bed rest may be recommended to heal the injury caused to muscle. This allows the regeneration of muscle fibres. However, too much bed rest is not recommended as it may make the muscles weak.

    5. Ayurvedic Kati Basti
Ayurveda offers a special treatment called kati basti to relieve back pain caused by condition such spinal or cervical spondolysis. The procedure uses warm herbal oils that are held over the back region in a well made up of gram flour. The oils penetrate the spinal vertebrae and lubricate the. It also improves the muscle tone that improves flexibility and reduces pain.

    6. Panchakarma
Panchakarma is one of the most effective Ayurvedic treatments that helps to remove unwanted vatas from the body and cause complete detoxification. Vitiaion of vata is responsible for several pain conditions including the back pain, therefore Panchakarma Ayurvedic Treatment can be effective in treating back pain
