Raktachapadhikyata

This is the most commonly used term to represent hypertension. However this is not a term mentioned in classical literature of Ayurveda, instead is coined by recent Ayurvedic scholars Ravani & Mahaishkar U B for Hypertension. The word Raktachapadhikyata is constituted by three words – rakta, chapa and adhikyata. ‘Rakta’ refers to – Sharirasthasaptadhatvantaragata
dhatuvishesha12 ‘chapa’- refers to pressure or squeezing and ‘adhikyata’- refers to, high or increased levels.
