Granny’s Diary Tips for Treating Cold

Cold is the most common diseases which attack people of basically all age groups.  Although it seems to be a small disease, it is quite devastating because of it a communicable disease. A healthy person can easily get affected if exposed to even a small sneeze of the infected person.

At home, we always get natural remedies from our mother or grandmother for curing diseases which they might have learned from their mothers’. The method which they use involves usage of home remedies which is easily available in our homes in the warehouse called as ‘kitchen’.

Well, the first thing to lead a healthy lifestyle is by ensuring a healthy body and a healthy mind.  So, in order to allow Ayurveda to work efficiently, properly balanced diet is necessary. When old-fashioned remedies are blended with a properly balanced diet, the disease can easily be prevented and cured. So, one must ensure taking rest as much as possible and eat simple and easily digestible foods like oatmeal, homemade soups, etc. Foods which are heavy in sense of the digestion process must be avoided so as to keep the body free and healthy.

Here are a few home remedies which can help you fight the common cold:-

  • Tulsi, Turmeric, and Ginger Tea: The tea prepared by blending these three ingredients can help you fight illnesses like fever, sore throat, nausea, code or the bad flu. This potent tea is greatly helpful in preventing as well as treating an already attacked sickness. One needs to drink this tea nearly 3 times a day at intervals of 3-4 hours. Usage of small amount honey as sweetening product is recommended.
  • Clove and Cardamoms: Chewing a bud of clove or two cardamoms or few raisins can help you to fight a sore throat.
  • Ginger-Honey paste: Usage of one-fourth table teaspoon of ginger powder mixed with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder blended with one spoon of honey as in a paste can help you get rid of a bad cold. It is most ideal if consumed twice a day especially in the early morning before breakfast.
  • Garlic Soup: Garlic contains good antiseptic properties which help the immune system fight with common cold and flu. Boiling 3-6 cloves of garlic in a cup of water and drinking it like a soup can help the body in fighting the cold.
  • Black Pepper: Runny or stuffed up noses can be easily treated with consuming pepper in a meal or gargling in hot water or even just by smelling it. Pepper helps in breaking apart congestion in the lungs or sinuses.
